Vidyo received the award “Best Startup” at the Interop 2008 show. The Best of Interop Awards are an indicator of the most innovative and exciting offerings said organiser Information Week Magazine

5 May 2008. Vidyo has come up with the first new video conferencing architecture in decades. Yet because it is new, it is only compatible with videoconferencing systems of other vendors through a gateway.

Vidyo claims that VidyoConferencing serves as a step forward in quality and price for video communication, and removes the need to rely on a well engineered network. The central component of legacy video conferencing - the Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) - is taken away and replaced with a distributed architecture using an application layer router. The VidyoRouter adapts to available bandwidth and sends endpoints only as many packets as they can handle. The company's products and technology enable the widespread use of HD video conferencing by everyone, no matter where they are.

As reported here, the VidyoConferencing product family was launched by the company in late January 2008 and is one of the world's first scalable coding enabled video conferencing systems. It includes the VidyoRouter, VidyoRoom, VidyoDesktop, VidyoPortal and the VidyoGateway; a complete solution covering from the highest end room system available to HD-enabled desktop conferencing.

Vidyo calls their product “Personal Telepresence” and says it was developed by Vidyo to help people communicate efficiently using high definition (HD) quality video from any location.

VidyoConferencing  is an easy and affordable application that can be used by anyone whenever they want. VidyoConferencing works over any IP network. Utilizing Vidyo's unique intellectual property built upon the new H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC) standard, Vidyo supplies a high level of resilience and low latency video conferencing over converged IP networks. Cisco has licensed the technology.

Vidyo's technology for OEMs and end-to-end product solutions for organizations enable point-to-point and multi-point connections that include numerous platforms ranging from Mac and Windows desktops to dedicated room solutions.

"The Best of Interop Awards are always an indicator of the most innovative and exciting offerings in these categories, and this year's winners are no exception," said Art Wittman, Editor of InformationWeek. The recipient of the “Best Startup” award will have demonstrated advanced technology and innovative ideas and is recognized based on their contributions to the industry, according to Wittman

CEO of Vidyo, Ofer Shapiro, explained, "Vidyo provides the ideal solution for enterprises that want to make natural video communication universally available. Personal telepresence - the ability for anyone, anywhere and at any time to communicate with HD video quality - is now a reality with VidyoConferencing.”
